Tragic Paragliding Accident in Bir Billing Claims Life of Experienced Pilot Mohan Singh

An experienced pilot, Mohan Singh, died following a paragliding accident at Bir Billing due to a technical malfunction. The incident led to a temporary suspension of paragliding activities as authorities investigate.

An experienced pilot lost his life when a tandem paraglider reportedly malfunctioned shortly after take-off, leading to a crash near the launch site in Kangra district. This incident occurred at the Bir Billing paragliding site, known internationally for its adventure sports. Authorities have temporarily halted all paragliding activities as a mark of respect.

The accident took place on Friday evening when the tandem paraglider departed from the Billing launch point. Officials from the Bir Billing Paragliding Association reported that the paraglider experienced a technical issue soon after take-off, causing it to lose balance mid-air and crash near the road below. The pilot, Mohan Singh from Barot in Mandi district, was critically injured and later died en route to the hospital.

Safety Concerns at Adventure Sports Sites

This tragic event has reignited concerns about safety measures at adventure sports locations. There is a pressing need for regular equipment inspections, ensuring pilot certifications, and strict adherence to safety protocols. Authorities are investigating whether the accident resulted from technical faults, human errors, or adverse weather conditions.

Local residents and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene to assist both the pilot and an accompanying tourist. While Singh succumbed to his injuries on the way to medical care, the tourist received first aid and is now out of danger. District Tourism Development Officer Vinay Kumar stated that all relevant documents and information have been requested from marshals and technical advisors at the site.
