Khap Threatens Demonstration Outside Kejriwal's House Over Unfulfilled Promises
At the mahapanchayat held by Palam 360 Khap, several demands were raised including jobs for villagers, plots for self-reliance and tax relief. They threatened to demonstrate outside Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's house and gherao offices of AAP MLAs if these demands are not met before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The Palam 360 Khap, a traditional social organization in India, issued a stern warning to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on October 1. The Khap threatened to stage protests outside the Chief Minister's residence and gherao offices of AAP Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), if their demands were not met before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The declaration was made at a mahapanchayat held by the khap at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. During this gathering, several demands were raised by members of the khap. These included employment opportunities for villagers, allocation of plots to make them self-reliant, and relief from various taxes and fees such as house tax, conversion charge, and parking fee.
Addressing Rural Concerns
The purpose behind organizing this mahapanchayat was to discuss the rights of villagers residing in and around Delhi. The imposition of various taxes along with rules and regulations including house tax and building bye-laws have been causing distress among these communities. The rural population is seeking an alleviation from these burdensome policies that are hampering their daily lives.
Ultimatum Issued
Surendra Solanki, chief of Palam 360 Khap announced during the mahapanchayat that if their demands are not fulfilled before the Lok Sabha elections take place, they would escalate their protest actions against AAP MLAs. This could include staging demonstrations outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence or even encircling MLA offices – a form of protest known as 'gherao'.
Demand for Policy Changes
In addition to these immediate concerns related to taxation and job creation, Solanki also voiced demands for broader policy changes. The khap is seeking freedom from building bye-laws, a revised and farmer-friendly land pooling policy, and the notification of Master Plan 2041. These changes are seen as crucial to ensuring the long-term well-being and development of rural communities.
In an attempt to have their concerns addressed, Solanki stated that they have already initiated discussions with Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena over their demands. They have also been in contact with leaders from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a major political party in India.
Conclusion
The ultimatum issued by Palam 360 Khap underlines the growing discontent among rural communities in the peripheries of Delhi due to what they perceive as unfair policies and lack of attention towards their needs. As India prepares for its upcoming Lok Sabha elections, it remains to be seen how AAP responds to these demands and whether any substantial action will be taken to address these issues before voting day arrives.
