Pakistan Shelling Killed 8 People in Poonch After India Hits Terror Camps in PoK
At least eight Indian civilians were killed and 29 others injured in the Poonch region of Jammu and Kashmir, near the Line of Control (LoC), according to a local government official. It remains unclear whether these casualties are in addition to the three deaths reported earlier by Indian authorities.
The escalation follows India's launch of Operation Sindoor early Wednesday, a coordinated missile strike on nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK). Targets included key strongholds of Jaish-e-Mohammad in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke.

In response, Pakistani forces reportedly violated the ceasefire, resorting to heavy shelling along the LoC. The Indian Army has said it is responding in equal measure.
According to officials, ten civilians were injured in the Uri sector of Baramulla district, while three others sustained injuries in Rajouri district.
India has maintained that its missile strikes were focused, measured, and non-escalatory. "No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted," the Indian Army said in a statement. "These actions come in the wake of the barbaric Pahalgam terror attack in which 25 Indian civilians and one Nepali citizen were killed. We are delivering on our commitment to hold the perpetrators accountable."
The operation was reportedly executed as a joint effort by the Indian Army and Air Force, with over 70% of targets engaged by the Army and 30% by the Air Force. The IAF used stand-off weapons, while the Army deployed drones, precision munitions, and other advanced platforms.
Red Alert in Uttar Pradesh
Following the launch of Operation Sindoor, a red alert was declared in Uttar Pradesh. The state's Director General of Police (DGP) announced that all police field formations have been instructed to coordinate with defence units and bolster security at key installations.
"Red Alert declared in Uttar Pradesh following #OperationSindoor. All UP Police field units are working closely with Defence units to ensure enhanced security at critical sites," the DGP said in a post on X.
