Madhya Pradesh Officials Navigate Complexities of Nine Children Born to Indian Mothers and Pakistani Fathers

Authorities in Madhya Pradesh face a dilemma regarding nine children born to Pakistani fathers and Indian mothers amid the Centre's directive for Pakistani nationals to leave India. An official revealed that they are also addressing the case of a Pakistani man who applied for a Long Term Visa (LTV) in Bhopal on April 25, just before the government's order.

Visa Revocation and Compliance

The Union government revoked 14 visa categories, including business, conference, visitor, and pilgrim visas for Pakistani nationals. However, LTVs and diplomatic visas remain unaffected. The Home Ministry instructed that those holding SAARC visas must exit by April 26, while others with various visa types must leave by April 27. Medical visa holders have until April 29 to depart.

In Madhya Pradesh, 14 individuals, including the nine children, were expected to leave India following the government's order. Three have already departed for Pakistan, while one remains in Delhi due to an issue being addressed by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office. The state is seeking guidance from the Centre on how to handle these cases.

Government's Firm Stance

The Centre has warned that any Pakistani national failing to comply with the departure deadlines will face arrest and prosecution. Penalties include up to three years in jail or a fine of up to Rs 3 lakh, or both. This directive followed the Pahalgam attack on April 22, where terrorists linked to Pakistan killed 26 people.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah contacted all state chief ministers on April 25, urging them to ensure no Pakistani overstays beyond the deadline. Subsequently, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan conducted a video conference with chief secretaries to reinforce this directive.

Current Situation in Madhya Pradesh

In Madhya Pradesh, there are currently 228 Pakistani nationals on various visas. The state is particularly concerned about nine children born to Indian mothers and Pakistani fathers. Four of these children reside in Indore, three in Jabalpur, and two in Bhopal with their mothers.

The situation remains complex as authorities navigate these sensitive cases while adhering to the Centre's orders. The state's request for guidance reflects the challenges faced in balancing humanitarian concerns with national security directives.
