Owaisi-led AIMIM fields Mohd Rafi's son Shahid:Will father's legacy act as shot in his political arm

Mohd rafi
Shahid Rafi, the son of Mohammed Rafi, the badshah of Bollywood playback singing, who gave Indian cinema 40 golden years of haunting melodies will soon debut in politics. Reports say that he has been fielded in Maharashtra assembly election by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen(AIMIM).

Apparently, because of sizable number of Muslim population in Mumbadevi constituency, he has been given ticket by Asaduddin Owaisi led party AIMIM, notorious for hate speeches.

Hopeful that he will get it through, Shahid Rafi, who is in garment businessmen said, "I want to serve people. My father used to help people. I thought by becoming an MLA, I could help people. Many parties have come and gone, but nothing has changed. I request people to give me a chance".

On asking why he chose MIM, Shahid said that he was impressed by party's role and contribution in various social welfare schemes and wanted to be a part of its agenda in Maharashtra.

Though, he has the backing of his father's legacy but he must be weary bout the image of his party. It's top leaders Akbaruddin Owaisi and Asaduddin Owaisi always hog the headlines for his hate speeches. And the lists are like no-ending. In total, 24 candidates have been given ticket by party this time. The AIMIM had made its entry into Maharashtra state in 2012 itself when it had won 13 seats in Nanded-Waghala city municipal council polls.
