Order tasty, hygienic food on board: Train travellers, rejoice !

New Delhi, Oct 6: Here is a good news for

travellers in India - Finally, the government has decided to ensure quality and hygienic food in trains.

From next month, tasty, 'ready-to-eat' meals will be available in all express and mail trains. The services of the brands' pre-cooked foods will be made available in all mail and express trains having pantry car.

As the first step, a draft policy has been prepared to allow brands such as ITC, MTR, Maiyas, Kohinoor Foods and Kellogg's to serve food on board. The food will be served in a sealed pack.

The branded food would be served to passengers as an 'add on' option in addition to other standard items as part of catering service on these trains, said a TOI report. Passengers will be given a menu card from which they can choose the 'ready to eat' items, its brand, weight and rates.

However, the rates of the branded food will not be different from the existing rates charged by the IRCTC caterers.
