OPS launches signature campaign to turn Jaya's home into memorial
Chennai, Feb 11: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam has launched a signature campaign to turn Jayalalithaa's residence into a memorial. OPS has indicated that Jayalalithaa's residence Veda Nilayam at Poes Garden in Chennai would be turned into a memorial.
OPS held a brief meeting before deciding to launch a signature campaign. Currently, Jayalalithaa's close aide Sasikala lives at Veda Nilayam.
Meanwhile police personnel who visited the resort have recorded the statements of AIADMK MLAs who were carted away by Sasikala. The police were present at the resort some 100 kilometre away from Chennai to verify if the MLAs were forcibly kept out there.
Most of the MLAs are understood to have told the police that they were in the resort out of their own will. Most of them said that they were not kept in the resort under duress.
The Madras high court had directed the government to file an affidavit giving details about the MLAs. A petition was filed in the court seeking to know about the exact status of the MLAs. The government had however said that the MLAs were in a hostel and not kept captive in any resort.
Meanwhile Minister K Pandiarajan has extended support to O Panneerselvam. In tweet, the minister said, "Will surely listen to the collective voice of my voters and decide in a way to uphold the dignity of Amma's memory and unity of AIADMK." This is considered to be a major setback to Sasikala as many more are expected to join OPS.
Sasikala has however dashed off another letter to the governor. A one-page letter written by her seeks an appointment with the governor so that she is invited to form the government and become the state chief minister.
