Opposition Tags Centre As 'Jumla Govt' Over LPG Price Cut
National Congress Party Working President and Member of the Parliament Supriya Sule on Tuesday lashed out at the central government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party over its decision to reduce the prices of the LPG cylinder by Rs 200.

Sule while addressing the media states that the Centre is the 'Jumla Government'. She claimed that the central government must have reduced the prices by at least Rd 500 or Rs 700, however, a reduction of Rs 200 is not going to bring any changes in the lives of people.
Sule further said that during the Congress rule, the price of the cylinder was just Rs 400 which is currently Rs 1150 fixed by the Central Government.
"This is 'jumla' government...What will happen by decreasing Rs 200...When our government was in power, the prices were Rs 400 per cylinder...Today, it is Rs 1150...They should have decreased the prices by Rs 500 or Rs 700...This is all election 'jumla'...They did not think about inflation for four and a half years...The people of Karnataka rejected them because of inflation and unemployment...That's why the central government is in fear..," Sule was quoted saying to the media.
According to Sule, the reduction in the price of the gas cylinder is the Centre's strategy to seek voters ahead of the assembly elections in 2024.
Meanwhile, taking a dig at the BJP-led Central Government, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was quoted saying that the Modi government mercilessly looted public money and is now trying to present a good image ahead of the elections by distributing gifts to mothers and sisters.
Kharge's post on X, formerly Twitter read, "The Modi government should know that in 2024, the anger of the troubled people of the country cannot be reduced by a Rs 200 subsidy. Fear of INDIA is good, Modi-ji! The public has made up its mind. The only option is to show the exit door to BJP to beat inflation."
On the other hand, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the reduction in the price of LPG cylinders is the result of the formation of the INDIA Alliance by the opposition leaders.
Mamata Banerjee took to platform X, formerly Twitter, "Till now, only two meetings have been held in the past two months by the INDIA alliance and today, we see that LPG prices have gone down by Rs 200. Yeh hai INDIA ka Dum".
Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader Kavitha Kalvakuntla slammed the Centre's decision by saying, "First Increase the LPG cylinder price by Rs 800. And then decrease it by Rs 200. It's not a gift, but absolute gaslighting of people's emotions and pockets."
Earlier today, the Centre announced a reduction in the price of LPG cylinders by Rs 200. Union Minister Anurag Thakur while addressing the media post the cabinet meeting said that this is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's gift to mothers and sisters on the special occasion of Raksha Bandhan, and Onam.
