Operation Sindoor: Target Locations, Strike Map And Why India Chose Them

In a bold and coordinated operation in the early hours of Wednesday, the Indian armed forces targeted nine key terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) with precision missile attacks. The operation comes in the wake of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, and signals a decisive response to escalating cross-border threats.

Operation Sindoor Target Locations And Why India Chose Them

The strikes, which began at 1:44 AM IST, were part of Operation Sindoor, a mission aimed at dismantling the infrastructure of terrorist groups operating with impunity across the border. The Pahalgam attack had claimed 26 civilian lives-25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen-and drew nationwide condemnation.

High-Value Targets: LeT and JeM Strongholds Hit

According to Indian defence sources, the operation specifically targeted facilities linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)-two of the most notorious terror outfits operating from Pakistani soil.

Muridke, near Lahore, long known as LeT's headquarters, saw strikes on training camps and logistics facilities.

In Bahawalpur, believed to be JeM's operational hub, Indian missiles reportedly hit the Subhanullah mosque complex in the Ahmed East area, allegedly used for militant recruitment and training.

Strategic Targets Across PoK

Other major targets included:

Muzaffarabad and Kotli, both identified as strategic launchpads for cross-border infiltration into Jammu & Kashmir.

Smaller camps and support nodes were also struck in Gulpur, Bhimber, Bagh, Chak Amru, and Sialkot.

All nine locations were chosen based on actionable intelligence, and the operation was calibrated to avoid Pakistani military installations to limit escalation, Indian officials said.

Pakistan Confirms Strikes, Calls It 'Act of War'

In a formal statement, Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the Indian Air Force had conducted strikes across PoK and inside Pakistan, describing the action as a "blatant act of war" and warning of retaliation "at a time and place of its choosing."

This marks the first official acknowledgment by Islamabad of the targets hit during Operation Sindoor. The Pakistani statement named the locations struck and accused India of violating international law and endangering civilian lives.

India: "Measured Counter-Terror Response"

India, for its part, maintains the operation was a measured counter-terror response aimed solely at dismantling infrastructure used to launch attacks on Indian soil.

"No civilian areas or military facilities were targeted," said a senior defence official. "Each strike was based on confirmed intelligence. This was not an act of war, but a necessary act of national self-defence."
Context: Rising Tensions After Pahalgam Attack

The April 22 Pahalgam attack, attributed to Pakistan-based terror elements, was one of the deadliest in recent years and occurred amid increased infiltration attempts and targeted killings in the Kashmir Valley.

Operation Sindoor is being seen as India's most expansive cross-border military response since the 2019 Balakot airstrikes, signaling a new phase in India's counter-terror doctrine-focused on precision, deterrence, and minimal collateral damage.
