Operation Sindoor: Schools Closed in Pathankot, Punjab on High Alert After Strikes on Terror Camps

Following India's precise military strikes under "Operation Sindoor," which have escalated tensions between India and Pakistan, the district administration of Pathankot has ordered all schools to stay closed for the next 72 hours. Following India's retaliatory attack against nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) early on Wednesday, May 7, the lockdown was prompted by increased security alerts.

The strikes came over two weeks after 26 civilians, including 25 Indians and one Nepali, were brutally killed in Pahalgam on April 22. Operation Sindoor, according to the Ministry of Defence, targeted terror camps affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), targeting JeM's headquarters in Bahawalpur and LeT's base in Muridke, both of which are situated in Pakistan's Punjab province. Five locations in PoK and Sialkot in Pakistan were among the other targeted areas.

All of Punjab's and Haryana's airbases are on high alert due to the strikes. All flights at Chandigarh's Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport have been cancelled until noon due to the high alert. Every airport in the area is currently being monitored more closely.

Because of security concerns, schools in Punjab's border districts of Ferozepur, Pathankot, and Amritsar have been forced to close on Wednesday. The school closures were verified by the Deputy Commissioner of Ferozepur, and Amritsar has received a similar directive. According to authorities, traffic at the Attari border is now moving normally, and a simulated exercise is planned for 4:00 PM.

Every movement across the border is being thoroughly watched by security personnel, such as the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Border Security Force (BSF). The Indian government has stressed that no military sites in Pakistan were attacked and said that its military reaction was "focused, measured, and non-escalatory." The action's only goal was to destroy the terror infrastructure that was being utilised to organise and lead assaults against India.
