Only fear of jail makes you act: Karnataka HC tells bureaucracy
Will you act only on the threat of going to jail, the Karnataka High Court observed while tearing into the state's bureaucracy. The observation came in the wake of repeated adjournment requests made by the government advocates in court.

We see that government advocates seek two to four weeks to respond. This has been happening a lot. Why don't the officials care about the government advocates? It is only when they face the threat of going to jail in a contempt case do they get the work done in 24 hours, acting Chief Justice of Karnataka, H G Ramesh said.
The matter pertained to the construction of a building in Dakshin Kannada. In this case, the authorities had sought for more time to respond to the petition.
The Bench said that the bureaucracy had become incompetent. How do you expect we run the administration if this is the attitude, the court also asked.
