One nation one poll: LS elections along with Rajasthan, MP and Chattisgarh
New Delhi: The Central government plans to hold next Lok Sabha election little early by March instead of waiting till the time when it completes its tenure. This is being done to hold elections in as many states as possible along with the 2019 general elections in its ambitious plan to implement One Nation, One Election plan for the Lok Sabha and all state Assembly elections.
The government has already started making its moves in this regard by making narrative for it by organizing programmes, seminar, conferences and other activities like dialogue on the issue with people, intellectuals, organizations involved in such activities.
Now, the government is working on its plane to execute it. Sources said that the government formation in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh has to be done by mid-December of 2018. All these states have chief minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party. So the government plans to impose President's Rule in these states after their term is complete to hold elections there simultaneously with the Lok Sabha.
Sources further said that the government wanted to hit two birds by one stone by holding Assembly elections in these states as the government will be able to negate anti-incumbency there however except Rajasthan the BJP claims to be in comfortable and will sail through. Sources said that party leaders feel that by holding election with the Lok Sabha may benefit the BJP in these states. And by holding Assembly elections with the Lok Sabha the BJP will try to bring its point home that it is serious about the concept of 'One Nation, One Election'.
With this plan Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Telengana will have their elections along with the Lok Sabha to begin with the plan on 'One Nation, One Election'. One north-eastern state Mizoram's election is due in mid December but it has a non-BJP government so it might not agree on the government proposal.
Sources said that the government has already started working with its plan. It is talking to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to complete its examinations by February and vote o account by February 1, 2019 are the two major issues that the government wants to take care first besides many other.
