Shivraj Chouhan Advocates for Simultaneous Elections to Enhance Development Across India

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stressed the importance of implementing simultaneous elections across India. He argued that holding elections throughout the year halts development. Speaking at a seminar by the Uttar Pradesh Nagarik Parishad in Lucknow, Chouhan noted that frequent elections disrupt progress. He believes that synchronised elections would boost development and prevent misuse of government resources.

Chouhan Calls for Simultaneous Elections in India

Chouhan, who coordinates the One Nation, One Election (ONOE) campaign, mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi first envisioned this idea during his time as Gujarat's chief minister. Chouhan urged collective efforts to make this vision a reality. He highlighted how repeated imposition of the Model Code of Conduct due to frequent elections hinders public welfare schemes and governance.

Simultaneous Elections: A National Need

Chouhan emphasised that One Nation, One Election is crucial for India's progress. He expressed gratitude to the Uttar Pradesh Nagarik Parishad for organising the seminar. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, who welcomed Chouhan and others.

Pathak echoed Chouhan's sentiments, stating that simultaneous elections would lessen the economic burden of conducting polls. He added that it would allow newly elected governments to focus on five years of uninterrupted development. Pathak also paid tribute to victims of a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, assuring that security forces are actively pursuing those responsible.

Support for Unified Election System

BJP state president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary supported the proposal, highlighting how frequent elections waste resources and time. Retired Justice Ranganath Pandey, who chaired the seminar, reiterated that frequent imposition of the Model Code of Conduct disrupts development momentum. He advocated for moving towards a unified election system in India.

The seminar underscored the need for a unified election system to ensure continuous development without interruptions from frequent electoral processes. Participants agreed on the benefits of synchronised elections in reducing costs and enhancing governance efficiency.
