The government is considering introducing bills on One Nation, One Election, Uniform Civil Code, and women's reservation in a special session of Parliament from September 18 to 22, according to reports. Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, announced the five-day session and expressed hopes for productive discussions and debates.

The term 'One Nation, One Election' pertains to the concept of holding simultaneous elections for both the Lok Sabha and various state assemblies. This concept has been proposed multiple times before and has undergone examination by the Law Commission of India.

One Nation, One Election, UCC, And Womens Reservation Bill: What To Expect In Special Parl Session?

Presently, elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies are typically conducted at the conclusion of their respective terms. This leads to two separate election cycles annually, each involving voting for different state assemblies. The One Nation, One Election proposal envisions holding elections for the Lok Sabha and all state assemblies within a single cycle, potentially on the same day.

The Uniform Civil Code seeks to replace personal laws influenced by religious, cultural, and traditional factors with a unified legal framework that applies to all individuals, regardless of their religion, caste, creed, sexual orientation, or gender.

The Uniform Civil Code is expected to encompass personal laws and regulations related to inheritance, adoption, and succession, aiming to establish a consistent code for these matters.

Women's reservation bill- This bill would reserve 33% of seats in the Lok Sabha and all state assemblies for women. This would help to increase women's representation in government and decision-making.
