Odisha Train Accident: People Queue Up To Donate Blood For Injured Victims
Following the tragic train accident in Balasore, Odisha, where at least 233 lives were lost, the local community displayed an outpouring of support by queuing up to donate blood for the injured victims. The incident has left authorities in mourning, prompting the declaration of a day of mourning by the Odisha government. Rescue and relief efforts have been underway since the accident occurred, with the involvement of various agencies and medical teams.
Blood Donations and Rescue Operations:
Witnessing the immense human toll of the train accident, individuals voluntarily offered to donate blood for the injured victims. The selfless act of donating blood showcased the community's unity and compassion in the face of tragedy. Local resident Ganesh, who was present at the scene, shared that around 200-300 people were rescued from the wreckage.

The Indian Army also joined the rescue efforts, with Colonel SK Dutta mentioning that additional army personnel were being deployed from Kolkata to support the ongoing operations. The site saw the deployment of approximately 200 ambulances, including those from the 108 fleets and government resources. A team of 50 additional doctors, along with 25 doctors from SCB (Srirama Chandra Bhanja) Medical College and Hospital, were mobilized to provide medical assistance.
Efforts to Recover and Identify the Deceased:
Forensic medicine specialists from PRM MCH Baripada and SCB MCH were assigned the task of overseeing the disposal of deceased bodies. The Director of Health Services, Director of Blood Safety, Additional DMET (Directorate of Medical Education & Training), and other officials were present at the site, coordinating and organizing the healthcare response.
NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) played a vital role, with six teams working tirelessly since the accident occurred. The teams, along with canine units and medical personnel, were actively involved in rescue operations. Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena addressed the press, mentioning the challenging nature of the mission due to the severe damage sustained by the train. Efforts were underway to cut the severely damaged bogie to recover any survivors or fatalities.

Identification and Autopsy Procedures:
To facilitate the process of identifying the deceased, bodies were being handed over to their families upon producing relevant identification documents. For unidentified bodies, the necessary procedures, including autopsies, were being followed to determine their identities and initiate further actions.
About Odisha Train accident:
The accident occurred around 7 pm on Friday when several coaches of the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express derailed near Bahanaga station after colliding with a goods train. Railway spokesperson Amitabh Sharma confirmed the timing and expressed deep sadness over the incident.
As the rescue and recovery efforts continue, the nation stands in solidarity with the affected families, emphasising the importance of unity and support during this difficult time.
