Odisha: Law minister shot, hospitalised

, Feb 22: Maheswar Mohanty, the Law Minister of Odisha, was shot at 10 pm on Friday by unknown assailants in his hometown Puri. He was returning home on his bike, when two to three people emerged and shot at him.

Superintendent of Police Anup Kumar Sahoo said that although the minister's condition is stable, he has sustained bullet injuries in his hand.

Initially, he was taken to a hospital, but was later shifted to a private institution. The police is making all efforts to nab the assailants, but is unsure of the reason behind the murder attempt.

Apart from being the Law Minister, Mohanty also holds key positions of tourism, culture, planning and coordination.
