Odisha Enhances Road Safety with Automated Driving Testing Systems

Odishas Transport Minister Tukuni Sahu introduced automated driving testing systems in six regional transport offices to ensure qualified drivers and reduce accidents. The automated process enhances efficiency and transparency in obtaining driving licenses. Additionally, truck terminals are being constructed to address illegal roadside parking and provide facilities for drivers.

On Wednesday, March 6, Odisha Transport Minister Tukuni Sahu inaugurated automated driving testing systems (ADTS) in six regional transport offices (RTOs) across the state. These systems have been implemented in RTO offices located in Angul, Dhenkanal, Rourkela, Sundergarh, Keonjhar, and Ganjam districts.

The ADTS aims to reduce accidents by ensuring that only qualified individuals receive driving licenses. Sahu emphasized that the automated testing process is more efficient and transparent compared to manual procedures.

Construction of Truck Terminals

In addition to the ADTS inauguration, Sahu also laid foundation stones for the construction of truck terminals at 23 locations. The minister highlighted the issue of illegal roadside parking by heavy motor vehicles due to insufficient facilities within districts. This situation contributes to driver stress and road accidents.

The construction of truck terminals aims to address these challenges by providing basic amenities and facilities such as cargo loading and unloading, fueling, and more to drivers.

Junior Rakshak Initiative

Furthermore, the transport department has collaborated with the Odisha NCC Directorate to launch the 'Junior Rakshak' initiative. Under this program, NCC cadets will serve as road safety ambassadors, spreading awareness among their peers, families, and the public about road safety measures.

The implementation of ADTS, construction of truck terminals, and the launch of the Junior Rakshak initiative demonstrate the Odisha government's commitment to enhancing road safety and improving transportation infrastructure in the state.
