Cyclone Dana: Odisha CM Majhi Confirms 1,600 Pregnant Women Gave Birth After Relocation
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reported that 1,600 out of 4,431 pregnant women relocated to health centres due to Cyclone Dana have given birth.
The state has evacuated a total of 5,84,888 individuals, with the number expected to surpass 600,000 by Friday morning.

These evacuees are staying in 6,008 cyclone shelters where they receive food, medicine, water, and other essentials.
Balasore district experienced the highest evacuation numbers, with 172,916 people moved to safety. Mayurbhanj followed with 100,000 evacuees. Bhadrak saw 75,000 people evacuated, while Jajpur and Kendrapara had 58,000 and 46,000 respectively. The state initially aimed to evacuate one million people but adjusted the target as Cyclone Dana's path changed.
Evacuation Efforts and Government Coordination
The chief minister confirmed that all individuals from high-risk zones have been successfully evacuated. Majhi also communicated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah about the state's preparedness. The Centre expressed satisfaction with Odisha's efforts in handling the situation.
Earlier on Thursday, a woman from Cuttack district gave birth to a baby boy at Niali Hospital. This event was highlighted by the state's Information and Public Relations department. They noted that the mother was among those relocated to cyclone shelters. Both mother and child are reportedly in good health.
Healthcare and Safety Measures
The department stated, "Authorities ensured the safe delivery of the baby boy at Niali Hospital amid ongoing preparations for Cyclone Dana." Sai Swapna Behera and her newborn are doing well. Disaster response teams are actively providing safety and medical assistance to all affected individuals.
The state government has been proactive in its response to Cyclone Dana. They have ensured that necessary resources are available in shelters for those displaced by the cyclone. The coordination between state and central authorities has been crucial in managing this natural disaster effectively.
