Nursery admissions: HC refuses to stay LG's notification

Delhi High Court
New Delhi, Jan 20: The Delhi High Court on Monday refused to stay a notification on the criteria for nursery admissions here.

A division bench of Chief Justice N.V. Ramana and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw dismissed the plea of unaided private schools challenging notification of Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung, fixing admissions criteria for nursery.

The schools said the new guidelines were "arbitrary".In a move to take on the powerful lobbying in private schools, Lieutenant Governor (LG) Najeeb Jung announced changes in the admission guidelines in private schools. While this was the second instance, on the first occasion the government announced 25% reservation at the entry level for students from economically weaker sections under the Right to EDucation Act.

This is instrumental in scrapping the controversial management quotas in private schools, awarding maximum weightage to the neighbourhood criterion, stripping private schools of their discretionary powers on matters of admission to a minimum
