Number of job seekers declined during Oommen Chandy's tenure
Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 11: The number of job seekers in Kerala has come down during the tenure of the United Democratic Front (UDF) government led by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, according to the economic review tabled on Thursday, Feb 11 in the assembly.
The total number of work seekers came down from 43.62 lakh in 2011, when the Chandy government assumed office, to 36.57 lakh in 2015, said the economic review on the eve of the presentation of the state budget.

The total number of employment seekers consisted of 20.53 lakh women and 16.04 lakh men. Of that number, there were 2.28 lakh college/university graduates and about 10,000 post graduates.
As a comparison, during the tenure of the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government of V.S. Achuthanandan, the number of job seekers had climbed from 39.57 lakh in 2006 to 43.62 lakhs in 2011.
The capital district had the highest number of unemployed at 5.92 lakh and the hilly district of Wayanad the lowest at 92,038.
