Not Right To Politicise, Amit Shah On Inauguration Of New Parliament Building

Union Home Minister, Amit Shah has said that the inauguration of the Parliament building should not be politicised. He said that it is an emotional moment in history and a process to connect new India with old traditions.

"We should not politicise this (inauguration of new Parliament building) issue, let people think and react however they want to," Shah said at a press conference.

His remarks came amidst the boycott call by 19 Opposition parties. These parties have maintained that the President should inaugurate the building and not the Prime Minister.

The statement by the Opposition parties criticised the Centre and pointed out that the Prime Minister's decision to inaugurate the building by completely sidelining the President of India is not just a grave insult by a direct assault on democracy.

The members of the National Democratic Alliance will attend the inaugural to be held on May 28.

Union Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri reminded hat the inauguration of the Parliament annex and library were done by prime ministers of the Congress, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.

"In August 1975, then PM Indira Gandhi inaugurated the Parliament annexe, and later in 1987 PM Rajiv Gandhi inaugurated the Parliament library. If your (Congress) head of government can inaugurate them, why can't our head of government do the same," he said.
