Not just RRR, Made-in-India too won the Oscars

'RRR' is different as the heroes destroy the British empire and emerge victorious at the end. This is what the audience have been waiting for – our country winning against the enemies.

Indian cinema is celebrating its most glorious moment since its inception as the West has finally woken up to the content made in India and decided to honour it with two awards at the Oscars this year.

The foot-tapping Naatu Naatu song in S.S. Rajamouli's 'RRR' bagged Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards, followed by Tamil documentary 'The Elephant Whisperers' that won the Best Documentary Short Film.

Not just RRR, Made-in-India too won the Oscars

Not just celebrities across the country, but President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in congratulating Rajamouli and his team for making the country proud at an international stage.

'Made in India' won the Oscars
A movie that deserved to bag an Oscar in Best Feature Film category ended up winning just one award. However, the victory is not just for 'RRR', but for 'Made in India' content. The movie won billions of hearts in the country before making waves internationally.

Rooted Content
What worked in favour of 'RRR' was its rooted content. Without getting distracted from how films on Indian freedom movement or against British rule, Rajamouli decided to add Telugu flavour with universal appeal. The concept of 'Naatu Naatu' was unique. Although the heroes wore Western attires, the song was truly local. He blended history with fiction and presented a story that also exposed the British's brutality.

No Tragedy
Movies on freedom struggle in India often ended in tragedies or the British having the last laugh. However, RRR is different as the heroes destroy the British empire and emerge victorious at the end. This is what the audience have been waiting to see - our country winning against the enemies. An intelligent filmmaker like Rajamouli understood this and ensured that India wins in the end.

Nationalist Fervour
Many leftists found issues with the movie as it had nationalist feelings. A section of people had issues with Ram Charan appearing in a saffron-clad avatar like Lord Rama. However, these elements have remained the biggest highlights of the movie as this helped the movie to connect with the content.

For decades, leftists have controlled the film industry and aped the Western model of filmmaking. Rajamouli broke those shackles and presented the movie without trying to please anybody, but the audience. As a result, 'RRR' got a pan-India success.

Everything in the movie was Indian - from costume to songs. Hence, 'RRR' has managed to win the hearts of the people across the globe. This has also become a lesson from copy-paste filmmakers from Bollywood, which still believes that it represents India, that it has finally come a moment for them to realise that people would not like to see films projecting India in a bad light (remember 'Slumdog Millionaire?) and there are plenty of stories that can be discovered in the country if they are willing to overcome the Western influence.

After all, India is the home for the world's greatest epic The Mahabharata, a film which Rajamouli dreams to make someday. One can only wish him the best.
