Noida International Airport Achieves Milestone with Successful First Flight Validation Test

The first validation test flight for Noida International Airport was successfully conducted on Monday. An IndiGo Airbus 320 received a ceremonial water cannon salute upon landing at the new greenfield facility, according to officials. Located in the Jewar area of Gautam Buddh Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh, this airport will be the second international airport in the National Capital Region after Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Successful First Flight Validation at Noida Airport

The airport is being developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich International Airport AG, under a public-private partnership with the Uttar Pradesh government. Validation flights are crucial for ensuring an airport meets safety and regulatory standards, forming a key part of the aerodrome licensing process.

Progress and Development

Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu expressed commitment to completing the airport project by April's end. "With the validation flight happening today, we are committed to finishing the airport project before the end of April," he stated. He assured continuous support from the Ministry of Civil Aviation to facilitate early operations.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hailed the event as historic for both India and Uttar Pradesh. In a post on X, he said, "Under the successful guidance of the Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, New Uttar Pradesh of New India is taking a new flight on the runway of development." He added that every citizen is proud of this achievement.

Safety and Operational Standards

Civil Aviation Minister Naidu highlighted that 50 million man-hours have been invested in this project without any incidents. "I don't think any other project in the country of such scale can boast of that record so I congratulate the whole team who has made this possible," he remarked. Noida International Airport CEO Christoph Schnellmann noted that successful validation flights demonstrate meticulous planning and dedication.

The validation flight tested RNP (Required Navigation Performance) procedures and ILS (Instrument Landing System) approach procedures using an Airbus A-320. RNP allows aircraft to follow precise flight paths with high accuracy. Naidu attributed India's civil aviation success to Prime Minister Modi's leadership, noting that airport numbers have nearly doubled in ten years.

Economic Impact and Future Prospects

Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh emphasised that the airport will create numerous employment opportunities for youth and contribute significantly to national progress. "Jewar will become a medium of economic development of the state and the country," he stated. The UP government highlighted that Jewar's successful landing marks another milestone for Uttar Pradesh, which now has the highest number of airports in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for this airport on November 25, 2021. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has made several visits to ensure quality standards are met during construction. The airport is expected to boost growth in Gautam Buddh Nagar, Aligarh, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, and surrounding areas.

The Noida International Airport's concession period began on October 1, 2021, lasting 40 years. Initially featuring one runway and terminal with a capacity for 12 million passengers annually, it has potential for further expansion in future phases. The airport aims to adhere to stringent safety standards required for commercial operations.

Following this successful validation flight, necessary documentation for aerodrome certification will be finalised and submitted to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The opening of this airport signifies new growth opportunities for Western Uttar Pradesh and Delhi-NCR territories.
