Noida Police Arrest Four Individuals for Extorting Victims via LGBTQ Dating App
Four individuals, aged 19 to 22, were arrested by Noida police for allegedly using a dating app to extort money from people. The gang targeted users of an LGBTQ community app, forming relationships before blackmailing them. A complaint was filed at Phase 3 police station, leading to the arrests in Sector 65.

The suspects created fake profiles on the Grindr app to attract victims. They secretly recorded interactions and collected evidence like photos and chats to use for extortion. Victims were threatened with exposure of their sexual orientation if they did not comply with demands for money or valuables.
Extortion Tactics and Arrest
Deputy Commissioner of Police Central Noida Shakti Mohan Avasthy explained that the gang operated by luring victims into physical relationships. They then used the gathered evidence to blackmail them for cash, online payments, or jewellery. The fear of social stigma often prevented victims from reporting these crimes.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to targeting over six individuals in similar schemes over the past three to four months. Efforts are underway to identify other victims and collect further evidence. The gang members have completed education up to class 12.
Details of the Crime
In one case, the gang lured a victim to a location and coerced him into transferring Rs 14,300 via GPay. They also forced his brother to transfer Rs 10,000 to one of their accounts. Additionally, they stole personal documents including an Aadhaar card and PAN card from the complainant.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Shani (20), Karan Kumar (22), Rajat (22), and Tushar (19). Police are working on contacting other potential victims who might have been targeted by this group.
The gang's activities highlight the risks associated with online dating apps, especially for vulnerable communities. Authorities urge anyone affected by similar crimes to come forward despite fears of social repercussions.
