Sharma, who was from Noida, was found hanging at her home in Katara Hills on the night of May 12. The house is described as her marital residence. "The accused and his mother rushed Twisha to a hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival by doctors. Police was alerted about the case by hospital authorities at around 11pm," Katara Hills police station in-charge Sunil Kumar Dubey told PTI.

According to investigators, Sharma had met Samarth Singh via a dating app in 2024. Police said the two married in December 2025 and later began living together in Katara Hills. Relatives alleged that Sharma shared worries about dowry demands. Family members also claimed Sharma wished to leave Bhopal and return to Noida shortly before death.

Sharma’s relatives accused the in-laws of harassment over dowry, physical assault and murder. They further alleged attempts to destroy case evidence inside the house. Her brother, an Indian Army major, approached senior officials complaining about delay in FIR registration. Relatives said Sharma spoke to them on phone until about 10pm on Tuesday and sounded distressed during that conversation.

The family held protests outside Katara Hills police station and later assembled at the women’s police station. They accused police of inaction and demanded prompt filing of criminal charges. "A case under Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita related to dowry death and dowry harassment has been registered against Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh. Efforts are being made to arrest them," additional police commissioner (Zone-2) Gautam Solanki said.

Police said the FIR was finally registered around 3.30am on Friday. The case cites Sections 80, 85 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. Section 80 deals with dowry death and can draw seven years to life imprisonment. Section 85 refers to cruelty by a husband or relatives.

Law / Section Subject
Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 80 Dowry death; punishment seven years to life imprisonment
Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 85 Cruelty by husband or husband’s relatives
Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 3(5) Additional dowry-related provision cited in FIR
Dowry Prohibition Act Sections 3 and 4 Dowry giving, taking and related demands

Later on Friday, a Bhopal court considered anticipatory bail pleas from the two accused. Retired judge gets bail after arguments by the defence. "The court granted anticipatory bail to the former judge, while the hearing on her son's plea will take place on Monday," her counsel told TOI. Police said the investigation would continue regardless of interim bail.

'Multiple antemortem injuries' were mentioned in medical findings from AIIMS Bhopal. A postmortem conducted there stated that "death is due to antemortem hanging by ligature". The autopsy report further noted: "Multiple antemortem injuries (simple in nature, possible by blunt force) over other parts of the body have been noted." Forensic experts preserved blood and viscera samples for toxicology.

According to specialists, tests on those samples "rule out concomitant intoxication". The report mentioned that nail clippings were stored for DNA analysis. It also recorded that the ligature material was "neither present in situ nor submitted by IO for examination by us." Investigators said they are awaiting full forensic opinions while examining the events leading to Sharma’s death.
