RSS Leader Sunil Ambekar Highlights Inspirational Roles of Gandhi and Hedgewar Without Comparison
Sunil Ambekar, a leader from the RSS, stated on Saturday that comparing KB Hedgewar and Mahatma Gandhi is unnecessary. Both figures have contributed significantly to the nation and society, serving as inspirations for many. He made these remarks during the launch of the book "Dr Hedgewar aani Mahatma Gandhi - Ek Darshan".

Ambekar highlighted that both Dr Hedgewar and Mahatma Gandhi dedicated their lives to serving the country and its people. He emphasised that their contributions should not be compared as both have done commendable work and continue to inspire. "Both gave their lives in service of the country, for the people of the country and the Hindu community," he stated.
Partition Debate and Historical Context
During his speech, Ambekar questioned whether India's partition before independence was due to Hindu weakness or leadership failure. He noted that both Dr Hedgewar and Gandhiji opposed partition, with Gandhiji famously stating it would occur over his dead body. This issue remains a significant topic of historical debate.
Ambekar argued that although some believe the partition issue ended with India's division, it persists today. He cited attacks on India by Pakistan, including a recent incident in Pahalgam, and atrocities against Hindus in Pakistan and Bangladesh as evidence.
Understanding History and National Icons
Emphasising the importance of understanding history, Ambekar said, "We are Bharatiya and have been on this land for thousands of years. We are Hindus and by tradition too we are Hindus." He stressed that analysing national icons like RSS with an open mind is crucial for making informed future decisions.
Ambekar urged that great personalities should not be confined to specific groups or ideologies. Instead, they should be recognised as national icons or rashtra purush. This perspective encourages a broader appreciation of their contributions beyond political affiliations.
Interactions Between Gandhi and Hedgewar
Ambekar also mentioned historical interactions between Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Hedgewar. In 1937, Gandhi visited a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh camp where he interacted with Hedgewar. Additionally, in 1947, Gandhi visited a shakha at Valmiki Mandir in Delhi.
The discussion at the event underscored the need for an open-minded analysis of historical figures and organisations like RSS. By doing so, society can better understand its past and make informed decisions for its future development.
