No govt property mortgaged to pay salary, pension: Pb Govt

Chandigarh, Dec 9: Punjab government today trashed media reports which claimed that state government mortgaged government properties, including widow home and jails, to tide over "financial crisis".

"There is no financial crunch in the state and the government is generating sufficient resources to meet its commitment for salaries and other development expenditure," said an official release here.

Strongly refuting media reports that the government has borrowed for the purpose of meeting committed expenditure on salaries and pensions by mortgaging government property, the release claimed the reports were "totally incorrect and misleading being bereft of facts".

The government was steadily heading on the path of development and progress, the release added. "No loan was raised by Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA) which was used for meeting the committed expenditure by the Punjab government," it further said.

The state government had been paying monthly salaries to the staff including pensions in time, out of its own resources, the release added.
