No Evidence Against WFI Chief Brij Bhushan? Delhi Police Refutes Reports

The Delhi Police on Wednesday rejected reports which claimed that there has been no adequate evidence to arrest Wrestling Federation of India chief Braj Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Olympians Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat have been demanding the arrest of the WFI president Braj Bhushan, who has denied allegations of sexually harassing female athletes.

"Several media channels are running a story that the Delhi Police hasn't found sufficient evidence in the cases registered against the Ex-President of WFI and a final report in the matter is due to be submitted before the concerned court. It is to clarify that this news is 'wrong' and the investigation into this sensitive case is under progress with all sensitivity," Delhi police tweeted.

The clarification from the Delhi Police came after several media organisations reported that Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh can't be arrested as there is no sufficient evidence against him in the sexual harassment case.

"During the investigation so far, the police have not found sufficient evidence to arrest the WFI chief. There is also no supportive evidence to prove their (wrestlers) claim. A report will be submitted in court within 15 days which could be in the form of a charge sheet or final report," reports said quoting sources.

Amid the intesified protest by the wrestlers, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is also a BJP MP said that if allegations against him are proven, he would hang himself.

"If a single allegation against me is proven, I will hang myself. If you (wrestlers) have any evidence, present it to the Court, and I am ready to accept any punishment," he said.

The wrestlers, who had been protesting at Jantar Mantar since April 23 have demanded the arrest of Singh. On Sunday, the wrestlers were removed from the site after they tried to march to the new Parliament building that was inaugurated the same day.

Later, wrestlers were booked on charges of rioting and obstructing in discharge of duty by the Delhi police.
