Nitish Kumar says Bihar following Mahatma Gandhi's path
Kumar was speaking at a function of the year long centenary celebration of Champaran Satyagraha in west Champaran district.
Patna, Apr 27: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday said that his government is following the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi by banning liquor and empowering women in the state. "We are trying to work and follow the path shown by Gandhiji.

In addition to banning liquor, we also have take a lot of steps to empower women," Kumar said. Kumar was speaking at a function of the year long centenary celebration of Champaran Satyagraha in west Champaran district.
The district is a native place of Raj Kumar Shukla, a farmer on whose persuasion Gandhi had set off on his Champaran satyagraha to support indigo planters. Kumar said that the government would develop all the places associated with Gandhi's visit in Bihar.
"There is a well at Langat Singh college in Muzaffarpur where Gandhiji had taken a bath. The well has been preserved all these years. I saw that there is no water in it and ordered for digging," the Chief Minister said. "A memorial of Raj Kumar Shukla would be constructed at his native place Murli Bharwaha village," he said.
State Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav, Education minister Ashok Choudhary, Sugarcane minister Khursheed Alam and Chief Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh were also present on the occasion.
