Nishad Party Observes Phoolan Devi's Death Anniversary Across Uttar Pradesh with Events Honouring Women Activists

Uttar Pradesh Fisheries Minister and Nishad Party leader, Sanjay Nishad, announced that the party would commemorate Phoolan Devi's death anniversary by honouring women activists. Discussions will also focus on her role in advocating for social justice. Nishad praised Phoolan Devi for her courage in confronting injustice during challenging times.

Nishad Party Marks Phoolan Devis Anniversary

Phoolan Devi, often referred to as the Bandit Queen, was a notorious bandit-turned-politician from Uttar Pradesh. She was born into a poor mallah boatman family and gained notoriety for leading a gang involved in the 1981 Behmai massacre. After serving time in jail, she transitioned into politics and became a Member of Parliament.

Honouring Phoolan Devi's Legacy

Nishad criticised the Samajwadi Party, accusing them of illegally occupying Phoolan Devi's property. He demanded that it be returned to her mother. He stated, "Today, Nishad Party is observing Phoolan Devi's city day across every district in the state and in other states where we have a unit. We take inspiration from her journey - from a village by the riverside to becoming a symbol of resistance against injustice."

Phoolan Devi was tragically killed on July 25, 2001, outside her New Delhi home by three masked gunmen. The attack was allegedly in retaliation for the Behmai massacre. Her life story remains a powerful symbol of resistance against oppression and injustice.

Addressing Injustice Against Women

Nishad highlighted ongoing disrespect towards Phoolan Devi, stating, "Some people make disrespectful comments about her even today. But if one analyses the issue in depth, it becomes clear that for centuries, women have faced injustice." He emphasised that under their government, respect for women has increased.

The Nishad Party plans to hold events across the state to celebrate Phoolan Devi's legacy. "The world came to know her as an iron lady, as the Bandit Queen," Nishad remarked. He also mentioned raising her issues in legislative discussions.

Nishad acknowledged that while disrespect towards women persists, there has been progress. "Earlier, the number of people doing injustice was more, and those showing respect were fewer," he noted. The party aims to continue advocating for women's rights and honouring Phoolan Devi's contributions.
