Manoj Sinha Urges Next Generation to Uphold Sustainability Values Inherited from Ancestors

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha highlighted that sustainable development is an intrinsic part of Indian heritage. Speaking on the birth anniversary of Shankar Dayal Singh, he stressed the importance of passing down this tradition to future generations. Sinha noted that sustainable living is not a foreign concept but a legacy from our ancestors that must be preserved and promoted across society.

Sinha Calls for Upholding Sustainability Heritage

Sinha pointed out that modern lifestyles are increasingly driven by artificially created desires rather than genuine needs. He explained how these desires are presented as essential, making people believe they cannot live without them. This shift in priorities, according to Sinha, has led to a disconnect from traditional values and sustainable practices.

Indian Culture and Sustainable Development

He cited a documentary where experts discussed methods to manufacture demand for products. In the West, this has resulted in issues like hoarding disorder, identified by doctors and psychiatrists. Many coaching centres have emerged in the US, charging USD 24-194 per hour, to teach minimalist living. This underscores the significance of Indian cultural values in maintaining balance.

Sinha emphasised the need for a harmonious blend of science and culture for development. He stated that both scientific advancement and spiritual wisdom are crucial for progress. Choosing one over the other is not feasible; instead, they should complement each other to drive development forward.

Balancing Science and Spirituality

The Lieutenant Governor believes India should strive for a developed nation status by balancing various forces such as scientists and spiritualists, industrialists and intellectuals, economists and ecologists. He asserted that India has historically avoided extremism, suggesting that cultural continuity can guide us in resolving conflicts between needs and desires.

Sinha concluded by expressing confidence in India's ability to navigate challenges through cultural transmission across generations. He believes this will ensure development proceeds in the right direction, maintaining harmony between traditional values and modern advancements.
