New Union Ministers to Receive Government Bungalows in Lutyens Delhi
Four former Union ministers, including Smriti Irani, have vacated their official residences in Lutyens Delhi, sources revealed on Thursday. A high-level meeting was convened to discuss the allocation of bungalows to new ministers.

The directorate of estates under the Housing and Urban Affairs (HUA) Ministry is responsible for assigning government bungalows to Union ministers. Manohar Lal, the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, is expected to be allotted the 3, Krishna Menon Marg bungalow, previously occupied by former Union agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar.
Smriti Irani Vacates Official Residence
Irani vacated her official bungalow at 28 Tughlak Crescent earlier this week. This move comes weeks after she lost the Amethi parliamentary seat to Congress leader Kishori Lal Sharma by over 1.5 lakh votes. In 2019, Irani was hailed as a giant slayer after defeating Congress leader Rahul Gandhi from the same seat.
An official mentioned that Irani vacated her residence earlier this week. Former ministers and MPs are required to vacate their government accommodations within a month after a new government is formed.
Allotment of Bungalows
Manohar Lal, who took oath as a Cabinet minister last month, oversees the allocation of bungalows to Union ministers. Union ministers are entitled to type VIII bungalows in Lutyens Delhi.
Officials stated that since one month has passed since the formation of the new government, the directorate of estates will begin issuing notices to former ministers, instructing them to vacate their government accommodations.
The meeting on bungalow allotment aimed to ensure a smooth transition for new ministers. The process involves reassigning residences previously occupied by former ministers.
The sources highlighted that the directorate will start sending notices soon. This step ensures that new ministers can move into their designated residences without delay.
The Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry plays a crucial role in managing these transitions. Their efforts ensure that all Union ministers have appropriate accommodations in Lutyens Delhi.
The timely vacating of bungalows by former ministers facilitates an efficient handover process. It also ensures that newly appointed ministers can settle into their roles promptly.
This systematic approach helps maintain order and efficiency within the government housing system. It underscores the importance of adhering to established protocols for government accommodations.
By following these procedures, the ministry ensures that all officials have suitable living arrangements. This contributes to the overall functionality and effectiveness of the government's operations.
