New Excise Policy Boosts UP Economy With ₹6,747.88 Crore Projects And 25,000 Jobs
Uttar Pradesh's excise and prohibition minister (independent charge), Nitin Agarwal, has announced that the state has recorded investments worth ₹6,747.88 crore in the excise sector over the past three years. Out of 43 approved projects, nearly half have already been operationalised, while officials have been instructed to speed up the implementation of the remaining ventures.
Reviewing the progress of these projects, Agarwal highlighted that the state's new excise policy has emerged as a major driver in attracting investors and boosting the economy. "In the coming years, new schemes are being planned to bring in further investments, particularly in bottling plants, distilleries, and bio-ethanol production. These initiatives have already generated over 25,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities in Uttar Pradesh," he said.

The minister further underlined special measures designed to support investors. "Through the new distillery policy, we have introduced concessions on land, electricity, and taxes. The e-licensing system has made permit issuance faster and more transparent. Moreover, encouraging bio-ethanol production has not only supported industrial growth but also contributed to India's green energy transition. Additional incentives have been extended to MSME units," he explained.
Laying out the immediate roadmap, Agarwal stated that by September 2025, four projects worth nearly ₹175 crore will be launched in Kanpur Dehat, Bijnor, Unnao, and Mainpuri. Furthermore, eight projects worth about ₹820 crore are expected to become investment-ready by December 2025, including a brewery, a winery, an ethanol plant, and ENA production units.
Looking beyond 2025, Agarwal revealed that proposals worth over ₹3,328 crore have already been submitted for fresh investments in the excise sector. These projects, spread across Gorakhpur, Mathura, Sambhal, Unnao, Ghaziabad, Muzaffarnagar, Purvanchal, and other districts, will lead to the establishment of new units. According to him, such developments will not only increase revenue collection but also ensure economic empowerment and job creation at the local level.
