Nepalese Delegation Celebrates Lord Ram's Tilak Utsav in Ayodhya, Strengthening Cultural Ties
Over 500 delegates from Janakpur, Nepal, participated in Lord Ram's Tilak Utsav in Ayodhya on Monday evening. This event highlighted the cultural and spiritual ties between India and Nepal. Temple officials noted that the ceremony, featuring gifts like gold and silver, was a significant prelude to the symbolic wedding of Lord Ram and Sita from the Ramayana.

The delegation from Janakpur, led by Madhesh Province Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh and Janakpur Mayor Manoj Kumar Shah, brought 501 offerings. These offerings symbolised the union of cultural traditions between the two nations. Janakpur is revered as Sita's birthplace, holding a crucial place in ceremonial traditions.
Vedic Chants and Sacred Offerings
The Tilak Utsav began with Vedic chants led by Ramroshan Das, a junior priest at Janaki Temple in Janakpur. He symbolically represented Sita's younger brother during the ceremony. Sacred items such as bronze utensils, turmeric, sacred threads, and silver coins were presented alongside garments like yellow dhotis and waistbands.
Women artistes from Ayodhya enhanced the rituals with traditional folk songs, creating a festive atmosphere. The Nepalese guests, referred to as Tilakharus, were warmly welcomed at Ramsevakpuram, the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) headquarters. VHP Vice President Rajendra Singh Pankaj mentioned that some Tilakharus arrived as early as November 16.
Cultural Festivities and Devotional Songs
The Nepalese delegation's visit to Ram Lalla's sanctum sanctorum included devotional songs, traditional dances, and ceremonial music. These activities culminated with sacred prayers and rituals. The guests were treated to a lavish feast featuring local delicacies.
According to temple officials, this was the first time the Tilak ceremony was performed in the newly consecrated Ram Temple following the installation of Ram Lalla's idol in January this year. The event symbolised the enduring connection between Janakpur and Ayodhya, two cities central to the Ramayana.
Upcoming Wedding Procession
Omkar Singh, spokesperson for the Ram Mandir Trust, stated that "The wedding procession will leave for Janakpur on November 26 and reach there on December 3." The festivities in Janakpur are scheduled for December 6. After these celebrations, the baraat will return to Ayodhya on December 10.
