Nepal Army Band Participation in Army Day Parade Highlights Cultural Exchange with India

A 33-member band from the Nepal Army is set to join the Army Day Parade in Pune, highlighting a gesture of friendship and cultural exchange between the two nations. This participation comes after Nepal Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel's visit to India, where President Droupadi Murmu awarded him the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army.

The parade will occur on January 15 at Bombay Engineering Group and Centre in Pune, under the Southern Command. The Nepali contingent, including three women musicians, has already arrived in Pune. Their presence adds vibrancy to the celebrations and strengthens ties between the two countries.

Army Day Parade Rotation

Traditionally held in Delhi, the annual Army Day Parade saw a change in January 2023 when it was hosted in Bengaluru. This shift was part of a rotation strategy to spotlight different commands across India. In 2024, Lucknow hosted the parade, falling under the Central Command area.

This rotation not only changes locations but also highlights each command's unique role in national defence. It provides an opportunity to showcase the diverse cultural and regional settings where the Army operates.

Journey of the Nepali Band

The Nepali band began its journey from ICP Sonauli to Gorakhpur early morning, reaching Gorakhpur by noon. They then travelled to Pune on a C-295 aircraft, arriving by evening. This journey marks a significant cultural exchange between India and Nepal.

General Upendra Dwivedi visited Nepal in November and received an honorary rank from the Nepal Army. This tradition started in 1950, reflecting strong military ties between the two nations.

The participation of the Nepali band in Pune's parade is a testament to these enduring bonds. It underscores mutual respect and cooperation between India and Nepal's armed forces.
