Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary Advocates for Job and Land Safeguards for Jammu and Kashmir Locals

Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary has emphasised the importance of protecting local jobs and land. He expressed concerns about a retired Indian Police Service officer acquiring land at low prices in tourist areas and an outsider becoming a Kashmir Administrative Service officer. Choudhary stated, "I am not saying that we have enmity with the people from outside JK but our concern is that our children cannot compete with the students of Delhi or other places. Our land is also very little and it should be our right."

Choudhary Calls for Job and Land Protections

Choudhary urged the Bharatiya Janata Party to stop opposing the special status resolution passed by the assembly. He believes this opposition humiliates Jammu's residents. Instead, he called for efforts to improve their welfare. He highlighted that outsiders are taking local jobs and land, which is a significant issue for the region's youth.

Local Concerns Over Land and Employment

The deputy chief minister questioned how a retired IPS officer could purchase land at reduced rates in two tourist locations. He did not name the officer but criticised the situation, pointing out that such actions disadvantage local residents. Choudhary stressed that Jammu and Kashmir's limited land should remain with its people.

Choudhary paid tribute to an Army Junior Commissioned Officer and two Village Defence Guards killed by terrorists in Kishtwar district recently. He urged security agencies to reassess their strategies and take decisive action against terrorism. The deputy chief minister emphasised the need for policy changes to address ongoing security challenges.

Security and Peace Initiatives

The National Conference, according to Choudhary, has consistently supported peace efforts in Jammu and Kashmir. The party has suffered significant losses over 35 years, losing thousands of leaders and workers. Choudhary expressed a desire for recent violent incidents to be the last, aiming for stability in the region.

Choudhary reiterated his concerns about local youth competing with students from Delhi and other regions. He questioned where local children would go if outsiders continued to secure jobs meant for them. This issue highlights the broader challenge of ensuring opportunities for Jammu and Kashmir's residents.

The deputy chief minister's remarks underscore ongoing tensions regarding land ownership and employment opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir. His comments reflect a broader debate on balancing development with protecting local interests in the region.
