NCPCR Addresses Allegations of Fee Hike at Private School in Vasant Kunj, Delhi

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has addressed concerns over a fee increase at a private school in Vasant Kunj, Delhi. The commission wrote to the Deputy Director of Education Southwest after receiving complaints from parents. These complaints allege that the school raised fees without approval from the Directorate of Education (DoE).

Despite these allegations, the school authority has not yet provided a response. The NCPCR also highlighted claims that some students were being kept in the library all day, unable to attend classes. The commission stressed that fee-related issues should be resolved between parents and the school without affecting students' education.

Investigation and Parental Concerns

The NCPCR has instructed the district education officer to look into these allegations and submit a report within 15 days. The commission emphasised that state authorities regulate school fees, and disputes should be settled amicably to avoid disrupting students' academic progress.

Aprajita Gautam, president of the Delhi Parents Association, noted that this is not an isolated incident. "We have previously approached various departments regarding similar issues in multiple schools," she stated, indicating ongoing parental concerns about fee hikes.

The NCPCR reiterated that students should not face harassment over fee disputes. It is crucial for educational institutions to ensure that such issues do not interfere with students' learning experiences.

As the investigation unfolds, parents and stakeholders await further developments on this matter. The focus remains on ensuring fair practices in fee management and safeguarding students' educational rights.
