NCP-Sharadchandra Pawar Gets Man Blowing Turha as New Symbol for Lok Sabha Polls
The Election Commission of India has allotted Man Blowing Turha, a traditional trumpet, as the new symbol of the Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has allotted the symbol of a man blowing a traditional trumpet, known as "turha" or "tutari" in Marathi, to the Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP). This was announced by the party's spokesperson, Clyde Crasto, on Thursday, February 22.

Man Blowing Turha: A Symbol of Importance and Valor
The turha, also called tutari, holds significant cultural and historical importance in Maharashtra. It is traditionally blown to mark the entry of important figures, from ancient kings to contemporary political leaders. The Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP drew inspiration from a popular poem titled "Tutari" written by Jnanpith awardee Kusumagraj, which highlights the instrument's association with valor and power.
NCP's Pride and Aspirations
The NCP-SP expressed its honor and pride in receiving the man blowing turha symbol for the upcoming elections. In a post on social media platform X, the party stated, "The Tutari in the form of great valor of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had once deafened the emperor of Delhi. It is a great honor for our party to get Tutari Man Blowing Turha as our symbol for upcoming elections. Our Tutari is now ready to shake Delhi's throne under the leadership of Sharadchandra Pawar."
A Split within the NCP
The NCP, founded by Sharad Pawar, experienced a split in July 2022 when Ajit Pawar and eight other Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) joined the Eknath Shinde government. Consequently, the ECI granted the party name and the clock symbol to the faction led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
