NCC Cadets Embark 710-Kilometre Bicycle Rally To Honour Freedom Fighters
In a spirited tribute to the nation's freedom fighters, NCC cadets embarked on a bicycle rally spanning 710 kilometers over 14 days, including a two-day rest period. This endeavor, initiated from War Memorial Hussainiwala in Ferozepur, is set to conclude at the Parade Ground in New Delhi. The rally, which includes a balanced team of 12 cadets, among them six girls from various colleges, is not just a test of endurance against the harsh cold but also a moving homage to the sacrifices made during 90 years of freedom struggle and subsequent wars for independence.
Major General Jagdeep Singh Cheema, holding the position of NCC Additional Director General for Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, and Chandigarh, had the honor of flagging off this significant journey. Under the guidance of Colonel Somveer Singh Dabas, the team captain, and accompanied by NCC officer Ranjit Singh, Lady NCC officer Sushma Devi, and five army instructors, the cadets are navigating through ten districts across Punjab and Haryana to reach their final destination.

Training and Preparation
Prior to embarking on this arduous journey, all participants underwent extensive physical and mental preparation at the NCC Academy in Ropar for 20 days. Brigadier Ajay Tewari, who has been awarded the Sena Medal, and serves as the Group Commander in Jalandhar, highlighted the rigorous training regimen that the cadets and military instructors went through. This preparation was key to ensuring that the team was fully equipped to undertake the rally, emphasizing the dedication and resilience required to honor the legacy of the nation's heroes.

Colonel Dipankar, the commanding officer of the 8 Punjab NCC Battalion, explained that the rally's timing, in the chilly month of January, was chosen deliberately. It symbolizes the perseverance and sacrifice of the freedom fighters and soldiers who have laid down their lives for the country since independence.

The ultimate goal of the NCC cycle rally goes beyond the physical challenge it presents. It aims to foster a sense of patriotism and selfless service among the broader society and its citizens. By undertaking this journey, the cadets hope to inspire others with their display of commitment and respect for the country's rich history of struggle and sacrifice.

As the rally progresses towards New Delhi Cantt, passing through the heartlands of Punjab and Haryana, it serves as a moving reminder of the bravery and endurance of those who fought for India's freedom. This initiative by the NCC, especially in organizing such a rally during the bitter cold, demonstrates a profound respect for the nation's past and a hopeful outlook for its future.
