Yogi Adityanath Promotes Natural Water Purification Method to Ensure River Cleanliness and Save Crores

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted the benefits of using natural methods for water purification. He stated that this approach not only cleans rivers but also saves significant amounts of money. The chief minister inaugurated a Rs 2.70 crore municipal project to purify wastewater entering the Rapti River through phytoremediation.

Yogi Adityanath Advocates Natural Water Purification

During the event at Takia Ghat, Adityanath praised the municipal corporation's efforts to maintain the Rapti River's cleanliness and beauty. He described it as a crucial step towards preserving fertility and life. "Water purification through natural methods will clean the rivers and also save crores of rupees. There will be no electricity costs or maintenance expenses involved in this method," he said.

Natural Water Purification Benefits

The chief minister emphasised the significance of clean water, citing historical losses due to contaminated water. He noted that from 1977 to 2017, around 50,000 children in Gorakhpur and Eastern Uttar Pradesh died from encephalitis and vector-borne diseases linked to polluted water. Contaminated water was identified as a primary cause of these viral diseases.

Adityanath mentioned that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, initiatives like the Swachh Bharat Mission were launched nationwide. Urban areas saw the Amrit Mission for clean drinking water, while rural regions benefitted from the Jal Jeevan Mission. "Through the Har Ghar Nal scheme, clean drinking water is now being supplied to every household," he added.

Efforts to Preserve River Culture

Inspired by Prime Minister Modi, efforts began with the Namami Gange project to preserve river culture. This initiative has led to hosting the world's largest religious gathering, the Maha Kumbh, in Uttar Pradesh. It will take place at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers in Prayagraj from January 13 to February 26.

Gorakhpur is located along the Rapti and Rohini rivers, which are vital to local civilisation and culture. Efforts are underway to purify these rivers. Previously, penalties were imposed by the National Green Tribunal on the municipal corporation for discharging polluted water into the Rapti River.

Positive Outcomes of Natural Methods

The municipal corporation initially proposed a Rs 110 crore sewage treatment plant. However, a natural purification method was suggested instead. "Today, the positive results are for everyone to see," Adityanath remarked. The Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) has reached a pure state, with levels recorded at 22 at discharge points.

Adityanath suggested managing all drains and sewers similarly could lead to better outcomes at lower costs. This natural model ensures water purity, which is essential for life. The chief minister's remarks underscore the importance of sustainable practices in maintaining river health and community well-being.
