Nashik: Man goes berserk at civil hospital

Nashik, Mar 18: An inward patient went berserk at district civil hospital and damaged furniture before stabbing himself today, police said.

The incident occurred in wee hours, when Ismail Shaikh (30), admitted in male ward, consumed liquor and started ransacking furniture and telephones without any provocation.

He abused nurses on duty and later inflicted injuries on himself using a broken piece of glass.

No police personnel was present at the police beat inside the hospital when the frightened staff approached for help, sources at hospital said.

The nurses banned work in protest after the incident, but withdrew their agitation on assurance of Civil Surgeon. A case has been registered against Shaikh under various sections of IPC.
