Nagaland observers World Hepatitis Day

Kohima, Jul 28: Nagaland observed World Hepatitis Day on Monday with Speaker Chotisuh Sazo asking for an appropriate policy in reference to Hepatitis C be framed and placed before the Government through proper channel for suitable action.

The government can frame a policy for treatment and care for those affected, he said. At the programme organised by Kripa Foundation, its Nagaland direction and president of Indian Drug Users Forum Abou Mere said the prevalence of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) in Nagaland was 1.6 per cent and asked the state government to make it a health priority.

The high cost of treatment of the disease was keeping away the sufferers to prevent complications of HCV Asking if HCV is not the health priority of Nagaland state government, Mere said the state government should initiate programs for prevention, care and treatment for HCV-related lover diseases likely fibrosis, cirrhosis and even cancer.
