Nagaland MP Criticises Centre for Prolonging Naga Political Solution

Lone Nagaland MP S Supongmeren Jamir has accused the BJP-led NDA government of delaying a resolution to the Naga political issue. The Congress MP emphasised his party's dedication to achieving an early solution. "Despite having two agreements, the Centre has been delaying in finding a solution to the Naga political issue. Instead of early implementation of the two agreements, the Union government started changing interlocutors who had already signed the agreements and declared that the peace talks had been completed," Jamir alleged.

MP Slams Centre Over Naga Issue

Jamir criticised all MLAs in the 60-member Nagaland Assembly for forming an opposition-less government. He stated that his party is open to suggestions from NGOs, government, and national workers to resolve the Naga political issue. During a press conference at the party office, he reiterated Congress's commitment to an early solution.

Framework Agreement and Delays

The union government has held separate discussions with the National Socialist Council of Nagalim-Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) since 1997 and with the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs), comprising seven organisations, since 2017. The Centre signed a framework agreement with NSCN-IM on August 3, 2015, and reached an agreed position with NNPGs in December 2017. However, officials indicate that the Centre's refusal to accept NSCN-IM’s demand for a separate constitution and flag for the Nagas is causing delays in reaching a final solution.

Jamir highlighted that despite these agreements, no significant progress has been made. He pointed out that changing interlocutors has further delayed the process. "They BJP are making false promises but Naga people are still hoping that BJP will bring drastic changes. It will not. So people have to come forward and raise voices for their rights," he added.

Congress's Stand on Naga Issue

When asked if the party high command would support the Naga peace talks, Jamir claimed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is fully aware of the issues. He mentioned that during the 2018 state assembly polls, Naga people raised the slogan "no solution no election," but it was the BJP that promoted "election for solution."

Jamir reiterated that Congress is committed to fighting for an early resolution and is open to collaborating with various stakeholders. He urged people to voice their demands and not rely on false promises from other parties.

The Congress leader's statements reflect growing frustration among Naga people regarding delays in resolving their long-standing political issues. The call for action highlights a need for genuine efforts towards achieving peace and stability in Nagaland.

The ongoing delays have led to increased scepticism about whether a resolution will be reached soon. The involvement of multiple stakeholders and changing interlocutors have complicated negotiations further.

In conclusion, Jamir's remarks underscore the urgency of addressing the Naga political issue promptly. The Congress party's willingness to engage with various groups indicates a proactive approach towards finding a lasting solution.
