Mysterious Deaths of 17 Villagers Lead to Sealing of Contaminated Spring in Rajouri
Authorities have sealed a spring in a Jammu and Kashmir village amid an investigation into the mysterious deaths of 17 people from three families. The water from the spring tested positive for pesticides or insecticides. Additional Deputy Commissioner Dil Mir ordered the sealing of the spring and stationed security personnel at the site in Badhaal village, Rajouri district, to prevent access.

The Public Health Engineering Department, Jal Shakti division, blocked the spring after tests confirmed contamination. Concerns arose that villagers might secretly collect water from the spring. Therefore, Tehsildar Khawas was instructed to ensure no one uses the water. Mir emphasised the urgency of this matter for public health and safety.
Security Measures and Investigation
Mir directed Kandi's Station House Officer to deploy security personnel around the clock at the spring. This measure aims to prevent any use of its contaminated water. The situation is critical for ensuring public health and safety in the area.
Since December 7, 17 people from three related families have died under mysterious circumstances in the village. Among the deceased are 13 children aged between three and 15 years. Officials stated that investigations by health, police, and other departments are ongoing to determine the cause of these deaths.
