Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde Claims MVA Opposed and Then Stole Ladki Bahin Scheme

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated that the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has incorporated the Ladki Bahin Yojana into their manifesto after its success with the public. Speaking at a rally in Shivajinagar, Shinde criticised the MVA for allegedly adopting schemes initiated by his government. He claimed that if the MVA government had not been overthrown in 2022, Maharashtra might have regressed by 10-15 years.

Shinde Accuses MVA of Stealing Ladki Bahin Scheme

The Uddhav Thackeray-led government collapsed in June 2022 following a rebellion led by Shinde, who later became Chief Minister with BJP's support. Shinde accused the MVA of hypocrisy, stating, "The MVA opposed the Ladki Bahin Yojana, but when it became a hit with people, the opposition included it in their manifesto." He argued that this action demonstrated the double standards of the MVA, which includes Shiv Sena UBT, Congress, and Sharad Pawar's NCP SP.

Double Engine Government's Impact

Shinde highlighted the benefits of a "double engine" government, attributing Maharashtra's progress to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's support for various state schemes. He contrasted this with the MVA's alleged attempts to create divisions based on caste and hinder development projects. According to Shinde, the MVA's promises are merely false assurances, including their pledge to provide Rs 4,000 as an unemployment stipend to youth.

In contrast, Shinde claimed that his government has already implemented a scheme offering up to Rs 10,000. He criticised the previous administration for frequently resorting to lockdowns during the pandemic. "Lockdown was their favourite subject," he remarked, noting that even temples were closed and people had to protest for reopening facilities.

Allegations of Corruption

Shinde accused the MVA of corruption during the COVID-19 pandemic. He alleged misconduct involving body bags and jumbo hospitals under their governance. Shinde also mentioned that he did not hold any COVID-related meetings as Chief Minister and urged voters to teach the opposition a lesson in the upcoming elections.

Assembly elections in Maharashtra are scheduled for November 20, with results expected on November 23.
