Tragic Incident: Teacher Shot Dead by Police Constable in Muzaffarnagar

In a shocking incident, a government teacher, Dharmendra Kumar, was allegedly shot dead by an Uttar Pradesh Police head constable, Chander Prakash, following an altercation in the Civil Lines area of Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. Teacher's Death Sparks Protests
Following the tragic incident, teachers from various colleges in Muzaffarnagar gathered to protest the killing of their colleague. They blocked the circular road, expressing their anger and demanding strict action against the accused head constable. The protesters also boycotted the evaluation work of Uttar Pradesh Board exam answer sheets, disrupting the examination process.
Details of the Incident
According to Superintendent of Police City Satyanarain Parjapat, Dharmendra Kumar was part of a team from the education department in Varanasi that had brought UP Board exam answer sheets to the SD Inter College in Muzaffarnagar. The group included another teacher, two class-four employees, and a police team from Varanasi.
The team was waiting in their vehicle for the college gate to open when the altercation between Kumar and head constable Chander Prakash occurred. The argument escalated, leading Prakash to shoot Kumar with his service weapon. The injured teacher was rushed to the district hospital, where he was declared dead.
Political Reactions
The incident drew strong reactions from political leaders. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed his concern, stating that the arrogance of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was affecting the administration. He demanded a compensation of Rs 5 crore for the deceased teacher's family.
Protesters' Demands
The protesting teachers presented a memorandum to the state government, outlining their demands. They sought a compensation of at least Rs 10 crore for the deceased teacher's family and a government job for a family member. Additionally, they demanded strict action against the accused head constable and a written assurance from the district authorities.
Investigation Underway
The police have taken prompt action in response to the incident. The teacher's body has been sent for postmortem, and a case has been registered against head constable Chander Prakash. All individuals present in the vehicle during the incident have been taken into custody for questioning.
Teachers Boycott Evaluation Work
In solidarity with their colleague and to protest the incident, teachers across Muzaffarnagar have boycotted the evaluation of answer sheets for UP Board exams. This disruption has further added to the challenges faced by the education system.
Similar Incident in Kaushambi
In a related development, teachers in Kaushambi district, apparently angered by the Muzaffarnagar incident, also boycotted the evaluation work of UP Board exam copies. They blocked the Prayagraj-Chitrakoot road for an hour to express their solidarity and demand justice.
The incidents in Muzaffarnagar and Kaushambi have highlighted the urgent need for addressing issues within the education system and ensuring the safety and well-being of teachers.
