Murshidabad Violence: Initial Probe Findings Shared With MHA

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sought a clarification from the Bengal government over the recent violence in three border areas of West Bengal's Murshidabad, News18 reported citing sources.
The Centre has expressed concerns over the law and order situation and sought a response on the Bengal government's failure to protect the people's lives and property.

The preliminary probe has revealed the involvement of Bangladeshi infiltrators due to which the MHA is closely working with the state authorities, according to a report in The Times Of India. At least three people have lost in the violence triggered against the Centre's Waqf (Amendment) Act. Many Hindu families have fled to Malda over the communal unrest in the border region.

The violence started on April 12 and 13 in parts of Murshidabad, including Suti, Dhulian, and Jangipur. The Union Home Ministry had earlier had a video conference with the West Bengal Chief Secretary and DGP to assess the situation.

On its part, the Bengal authorities have taken 200 people into custody and 11 FIRs have been filed since the violence broke out on Friday.

TMC VS BJP On Waqf

Meanwhile, the Mamata government has said that the Waqf Act will not be implemented in the state. This has triggered a war of words between the TMC and the BJP.

The BJP has accused the TMC of creating the tensions to divert people's attention from the SSC Recruitment scam which has put over 25,000 people's futures at stake.

On the other hand, the Calcutta High Court came down heavily on the state government and directed the Mamata government to deploy Central Armed Forces in West Bengal's Murshidabad.

"Constitutional Courts cannot be a mute spectator and embroil itself in technical defences when the safety and security of the people are at danger. The deployment of Central Armed forces earlier could have escalated the situation as it appears adequate measures have not been taken in time," the stated.
