Mumbai Tragedy: Woman Leaps from Atal Setu Amidst Depression Battle
In a distressing event that unfolded on Mumbai's newly inaugurated Atal Setu, a 43-year-old woman, identified as Kinjal Kantilal Shah, a medical professional, reportedly took a leap off the sea bridge that links south Mumbai to Navi Mumbai. This incident, occurring for the first time on the Atal Setu, has prompted an extensive search operation. Despite efforts, the police have yet to recover her body. A note believed to be left behind by Shah suggests she was battling depression.

The Navi Mumbai Police have intensified their search efforts by enlisting the assistance of local fishermen. The missing woman had been residing with her father in the Navin Asha building located in the Parel area of Mumbai. According to police reports, Shah had been under treatment for depression. On the day of the incident, she informed her father of her intention to go out for some work. Later, a suicide note discovered at her home revealed her plan to end her life at Atal Setu due to prolonged depression.
Senior police inspector Rajendra Kote from the Nhava Sheva police station detailed how Shah insisted the taxi driver stop on the bridge before she jumped off. Following this, the driver alerted the authorities, leading to a coordinated search operation involving the coastal police and local villagers.
Further investigations into Shah's disappearance included scrutinizing CCTV footage, which showed her boarding a taxi around 1:30 pm on Monday. Despite deploying a speed boat from the Coastal Security Department and engaging local fishermen in the search, authorities have not yet located Shah.
The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri--Nhava Sheva Atal Setu, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January, stands as the country's longest sea bridge. This architectural marvel now witnesses a somber search operation for Kinjal Kantilal Shah, whose tragic decision underscores the critical importance of mental health awareness and support.
