Mumbai Woman Alleges Mother Was Robbed on IndiGo Flight, Airline Reacts

A concerning incident was reported by Trisha Shetty on social media, where her mother was allegedly robbed on board an IndiGo flight, flight number 6E 17, while she was asleep. The ordeal did not end there; according to Shetty, the flight crew's response was far from helpful.

Despite her mother catching the thief red-handed as he attempted to replace her bag in the overhead compartment, the crew allegedly failed to assist in a complaint against him. Shetty expressed her frustration, noting that other also reported the thief rifling through their belongings, yet the crew's handling of the situation was criticized as inadequate.

The incident quickly caught the attention of the online community, garnering a significant response.

Many expressed their empathy towards Shetty and her mother, highlighting the distressing nature of being robbed mid-flight. The situation sparked a broader discussion on airline safety, with some netizens recounting their own troubling experiences with IndiGo, describing them as "traumatic."

In response to the uproar, IndiGo issued a statement claiming that their staff had promptly addressed the complaint. They mentioned that the mother was asked to verify her belongings, confirming afterward that nothing was missing. However, this did not quell the outrage or address the core complaints about the crew's conduct and the safety measures onboard.

Following the incident, Shetty has been proactive in seeking justice, stating on X, "I am in the process of filing complaints with all relevant authorities. Hope is that action taken against the thief makes it safer for passengers to fly…"

She has also called for better training for the airline's crew to handle such situations more effectively, challenging IndiGo's assertion that the issue was resolved smoothly.

The 'AirHelp Score Report 2024' ranked IndiGo 103rd out of 109 airlines, positioning it among the world's worst airlines this year.

IndiGo, however, has challenged the accuracy of these rankings. According to PTI, the airline stated that the survey "does not disclose the sample size from India, nor does it consider the methodology or compensation guidelines followed by the global aviation industry, raising questions about its credibility."
