Mumbai: Was Mira Road Murder Accused Influenced By Shraddha Walkar Case?

The murder of a 36-year-old woman in Mumbai has come as a shock while reminding similar incident that occurred in Delhi, last year where 27-year-old Shraddha Walkar was brutally killed by her live-in partner.

56-year-old Manoj Sahni killed his live-in partner Saraswati Vaidya in the flat where they have been residing for three years. After killing her, the accused cut her body into pieces using cutters, boiled pieces of her body in a pressure cooker and later filled them into plastic bags to dispose of them. They further say that over 12-13 pieces of the woman's body were recovered from the site.

"Local Police had received information on the complaints of foul smell emanating from the flat. When the Police officers and staff checked it, the information was confirmed. Once the lock was broken and Police went inside, chopped pieces of the body were found in utensils and buckets...Accused has been arrested. Pieces of the body have been sent to JJ Hospital for analysis. FIR has been registered, further investigation is being done," DCP Jayant Bajbale told ANI.

Similarly, Shraddha Walkar was allegedly strangled to death by her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala on May 18 last year. The accused sawed her body into 35 pieces, which he kept in a refrigerator for almost three weeks at his residence in south Delhi's Mehrauli. He dumped the body piece by piece.

It has been reported that Sahni was using the spray as a foul smell started emanating from the flat. In case of Walkar's murder, accused Aftab had used incense sticks to avoid the stench.

Is by any chance the accused in Mira Road case got influenced by Walkar's case?

Although there is no official confirmation, a cop has informed News18 that he got influenced by Walkar's case. However, further details about it might be known during the investigation.

The report also claims that the victim was an orphan who stayed in an orphanage in Mumbai's Borivali. She had come across the accused, 10 years ago.

However, Sahani owns a ration shop which has remained shut since May 29.

Talking about the incident, his neighbour said, "He kept it only to himself and didn't mingle with the others. I didn't even know his name...A foul smell - like that of a dead rat - started emanating on Monday morning or Tuesday evening. We didn't imagine the source of it to be that flat, we had seen things like that only on TV..."

Meanwhile, the Mira-Bhayandar Court has sent accused Manoj Sane to police custody till 16th June.
